Keeping Names Simple
SynthEyes makes little use of user-entered text fields, mainly for tracker, mesh, object, and other entity names if they are specifically assigned, rather than simply numbered. (Main exceptions: File/File information’s scene description, Notes, and registration.) The tracker and object names can be exported to many other programs, which may not support alternate character sets at all, or may support them in other ways.
Note : This applies to filenames also, where you may need to consider the requirements of downstream programs when assigning file names.
Accordingly, we suggest that you start by using only the standard ASCII characters A-Z, a-z, and 0-9 in tracker etc names, with a leading alphabetic character ( don't start a name with a number!), and no space characters. That is recommended practice for plain English usage also. You can test more complex naming with your particular downstream programs.
Non-Latin characters (or characters not in a national font package) in tracker names will display as bullets (•) in any OpenGL window, as described above.
Tip : when using non-OpenGL-displayable characters in tracker names, we suggest keeping the Tracker25 part, and suffixing the name with your descriptive text, such as Tracker25_ 兔將. That way, you can still distinguish the trackers even if the name is bulleted in an OpenGL view, ie Tracker25_••.
