How to Solve in SynthEyes for Export to 3D Equalizer
SynthEyes’s lens models are more general than the lens models in other applications; in particular the anamorphic-6 th model has the full set of HSCL, VSCL, and ROT parameters. When we export to Fusion or Nuke, additional compositing nodes can be generated to handle missing parameters, but that is not an option exporting directly to 3D Equalizer.
Tip: Even for Fusion or Nuke, it can be a good idea to not use more parameters than necessary, to minimize the need for the execution time and resampling of additional pipeline elements.
When opening a sequence in SynthEyes for 3D Equalizer, don't open it in the middle, only at the beginning. This is a good rule in general.
To accommodate 3DE4 limitations, you can only solve the scene using certain combinations of models and parameters, as follows.
For non-anamorphic lenses, use the “Std. Radial 4th-order” lens model in SynthEyes.
For anamorphic shots, you can use either the “Std. Anamorphic 6th- order” or “Std. Anamorphic, Merged 6th-order” models in SynthEyes. SynthEyes provides more options than 3DE4; as a result you can use only the following combinations of parameters:
Targeting 3DE4's “3DE4 Anamorphic - Standard, Degree 4” model: don't use any of SynthEyes's C*06, C*26, C*46, or C*66 parameters, keep them at zero. (The * is an X or Y, or nothing at all for the Merged model.)
Targeting 3DE4's “3DE4 Anamorphic – Standard, Degree 6” model: don't use SynthEyes's HSCL, VSCL, or ROT. The anamorphic squeeze value must be 1.0 in the Shot Settings for this model.
This necessitates that anamorphic lens breathing shots with animated VSCL or misaligned lenses be handled only with the 4th order model. These are 3DE4 limitations, not SynthEyes or exporter limitations.
Note that while you can work in any coordinate system in SynthEyes, 3DE4 works in Y-Up-Right coordinates, so if you're talking to someone looking at it in 3DE4, you’ll want to take that into account, usually by setting the scene to Y- Up-Right in SynthEyes also.
